Italy feels like a country that never had to try to be beautiful, it just happened to be built that way. Ruins sit beside gelato counters, opera spills out of open windows, and every region insists its food is the only correct version. It is the only country I have visited where I was genuinely humbled not by its art or its history, but by how seriously an entire nation still argues about tomato sauce.
